Loving Well Isn't Easy

Scott Saul's writes, "What matters more to us...that we successfully put others in their place, or that we are known to love well? That we win culture wars with carefully constructed arguments and political power plays, or that we win hearts with humility, truth, and love? God have mercy on us if we do not love well because all that matters to us is being right and winning arguments. Truth and love can go together. Truth and love must go together."

Lord help us to love well....love like Jesus. If we wonder what this kind of love looks like, we only need to listen to what Jesus said... "I tell you, love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with prayer so that you may be children of your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:43-47) Jesus also talked about when you are treating others how you would like to be treated

is a way to show love. I don't know about you, but I really like to be treated with respect, care, kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, be listened to, and know that I matter to someone. In fact, Jesus even says that when we treat others in love by feeding them if they are hungry, clothing them, visiting them, giving them something to drink...we are loving Jesus himself!! This is not easy because people are hard to love! But, we can do this. How? "God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. (Wow!) This way love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we're free of worry on Judgement Day, --our standing in the world is identical with Christ's." (I John 4:17) We can love and know what that looks like because God first loved us! By God's amazing grace we can love like Him. Amazing the love He has for us. Let's share that love with others.
