Are You A Light-Shiner?

"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Do you have people in your life that have treated you in a way that empowers and encourages you to be your best self? That is a gift.

Jessica is in the picture with me. This girl has been through very dark times. She has had things happen to her in her 16 years of life that I shudder when I think of them. We have watched her grow up from five years old--an orphan living with her Aunt.

She has always had a shyness about her. Smiles don't come easy and when I think about it. How could she smile when life just constantly is dark and draining? Repeatedly, darkness shoves situations in our lives that can be overwhelming.

But we, Kenya REAL, have a message that we want to consistently share. The message that John 1:4–5 says, “In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” In other words, Jesus is the light of the world. We may feel overwhelmed by darkness, but it will never overcome us because Jesus’ light is in us and around us.

We want to treat Jessica and our 320 students at Calvary Hope with so much love, patience, and kindness that they see His light through us. They see their potential. They want to know more about this Light, Jesus. And they realize they were made for more!

We need people like you who are "Light shiners". We need people to pray for our students that they will realize they are a child of God--let that be their identity!

We need people to pray for our Teachers who faithfully serve our kids from 6am to 6pm and on Saturdays too! Praying they grow in their love for Jesus.

We need people to pray for Pastor Henry who tirelessly keeps shining Jesus' light throughout his community. Praying he feels empowered and encouraged.

In the darkest rooms, the darkest communities, the darkest families, the comforting light of Jesus' presence wraps up every tender and broken heart. He collects our tears in a bottle. (Psalm 56:8) Even in the darkest stories, we can shine His light in how we treat Jessica and our students at Calvary Hope. Absolutely no darkness can overcome His light. Now that is Good News!!

We thank you so very much for already being part of Kenya REAL! You lift us up! You shine His light as you are REAL.

May the Light of our Savior continue to fill you with all His hope and joy as you rest in His unfathomable love and grace.
